The Environment
The environmental impacts of growing and shipping produce, sometimes halfway around the world, are enormous. The average distance that food in a supermarket travels in North America, from farm to plate, is 2500 to 4000 km. Take a small, but real, step towards action against global climate change. |

Enjoy Premium Flavour
Produce picked and eaten at the height of freshness has more flavour. It hasn't been riding around in a truck for 1000's of kms. It has travelled from your garden to your plate. Taste the difference. |
Enjoy the ultimate in freshness
Pick and eat your own veggies as they ripen, at the peak of perfection. No limp spinach that has travelled from California in the back of a truck. Fresh, flavorful veggies like those you can grow in your own garden are difficult or impossible to buy iin the big grocery stores. |
Support the Local Economy
Buying local products at locally owned businesses keeps money circulating closer to where you spend it. This creates a ripple effect as those businesses and their employees in turn spend money locally. Corporate chains send most of their money out of town. For every $1 spent at a local business, 45 cents is re-invested locally. For every $1 spent at a corporate chain, only 15 cents is reinvested locally.

Help Children Understand & Respect Nature
Gardening is a good way to involve kids in experimental learning.
Teaching kids about gardening could help them respect & better relate to the environment.
Teaching children about how plants grow, where our food comes from, and how the environment effects our ability to grow food is more important now than it's ever been.

Save Money
Save money and time with fewer trips to the grocery store. Grow your own priceless fresh and nutritious vegetables that are not available in your grocery store.
|
nUTRITION
Fresh, fully ripe vegetables contain more nutrients than food that is past it's peak of freshness. Vegetables that have been riding around the back of a truck or sitting in a refrigerator do not compare with freshly harvested garden vegetables.
|
vARIETY
Growing your own vegetables allows the opportunity to grow heirloom varieties, or flavourful, unique varieties that are never available in the grocery store.
Gourmet meals are easy to create when you have a garden full of beautiful veggies.

fOOD sECURITY
Contaminated fresh tomatoes served in restaurants were the cause of a recent salmonella outbreak that sickened over 180 people in 21 states.
This came on the heels of an E. coli outbreak, caused by tainted spinach from California, that killed three people and sickened more than 200 others.
Prior to that 6 people were paralyzed after drinking carrot juice that tested positive for a botulism toxin. In recent years there have also been cases of hepatitis A in green onions and e. coli in lettuce.
People are beginning to question the safety of the veggies they're buying in the large chain grocery stores.
Growing your own vegetables allows the freedom to enjoy your food with peace of mind.
